Our History

GEOTEK was founded in 1990 by the principals of Aligned Fiber Composites (AFC), a fiberglass pultrusion firm established in 1971. GEOTEK initially focused on pultruded fiberglass fencing products but quickly moved into the development and manufacturing of a variety of other pultruded products.  These products include tension bars for chain link fence, retaining wall pins and nursery stakes.

In 1994, PUPI® (Pultruded Utility Products Inc) began its partnership with GEOTEK to refine and manufacture fiberglass beams for crossarms. Leveraging GEOTEK's expertise in product design and pultrusion, PUPI® crossarm beams were significantly redesigned for improved strength, stiffness, resistance to weathering and with reliable product quality. Since 1994, all PUPI® crossarms have been manufactured by GEOTEK.

GEOTEK purchased the assets of Pultruded Utility Products Inc on March 1, 2000 and the business was renamed Pultruded Utility Products International, PUPI®, to reflect the growth of the utility products lines outside of North America. Since 2000, the PUPI product lines have been greatly expanded to provide crossarms, braces and other utility structures to meet broad customer needs in distribution and transmission structures worldwide.

On February 4, 2009, the majority interest in GEOTEK was purchased by Granite Equity Partners, a Minnesota-based private investment and holding company. Granite Equity Partners is committed to providing the resources required to continue PUPI's leadership and growth.  PUPI has become GEOTEK's largest line of business and today, GEOTEK is the leading provider of fiberglass crossarms in North America, producing hundreds of configurations of crossarms, deadend assemblies and braces.

PUPI® products are manufactured under U.S. Patent #6834469 for an internal bushing system. PUPI adjustable x-, knee and vee braces feature patented EZE-Fit brackets (US Patent 9,197,051).

In 2011, GEOTEK made major investments to expand its product facility to accommodate business growth and new product lines. All of GEOTEK's products are designed and manufactured in Stewartville, MN.
